Published 1:30 pm Wednesday, August 12, 2026The Sylvan Lake Chamber of Commerce has received 172 nominations for the upcoming business awards. The 172 nominations received represent 103 unique businesses and organizations throughout the Sylvan Lake area, Chamber of Commerce member Sarah Rollingson said. “Some received more than one nomination, either within the same category or across multiple categories. ”The Business Awards have 13 award categories, including large business, small business, home-based business, new business, best business woman, employee of the year, business resiliency, marketing innovation, customer service, non-profit organization, young entrepreneur, philanthropy in business, and tourism and visitor experience. Awards are evaluated on merit. “Judges review both the original nomination and the nominee’s acceptance submission, giving them perspectives from both the person who nominated them and the nominee themselves. Submissions are scored independently, and judge identities remain confidential to support a fair and impartial process,” Rollingson said. Nominees are then evaluated on how they demonstrate excellence within their category. “Including their impact, achievements, and contributions. There is no public voting, and the number of nominations received does not determine the outcome,” she added. The Awards of Excellence Gala will take place on Oct. 3 at the Hilltop Event Centre. Tickets for the event need to be purchased by Sept. 25. “Last year’s gala sold out ahead of the ticket deadline,” Rollingson said. Finalists in all 13 categories will be announced on Sept. 9.
