988 Colorado Mental Health Line to visit SLV

From a 988 Colorado Mental Health Line social media campaign. The 988 Colorado Mental Health Line team will be in the San Luis Valley July 6 to July 10 as part of a statewide effort to center local voices, build lasting relationships and ensure that Colorado’s free, confidential 24/7 support line is shaped by the people it is designed to serve. The 988 Colorado Community Roadshow is a community-first initiative traveling to six regions across the state through August. Rather than arriving with a one-size-fits-all approach, the 988 Colorado team is traveling directly into rural and frontier areas to meet people where they are, learn from the local experts already doing amazing work on the ground, and understand how to best support each region’s unique needs. Data shows that the San Luis Valley includes areas with significant behavioral health needs but some of the state’s lowest levels of 988 engagement. Local conversations are vital to understanding and breaking down specific barriers to care in the region, which include:Stigma around seeking help, particularly among men and agricultural workers. Geographic isolation and limited local behavioral health infrastructure. Historical mistrust of systems, particularly in tribal, Latino and other communities of color. Low awareness of 988 as a comprehensive resource for everyday emotional support, not just crisis intervention. Following a May kickoff that coincided with Mental Health Awareness Month and a supportive stateproclamationfrom Gov. Jared Polis, the roadshow is targeting areas with the most demonstrated need for relationship-based outreach. The remaining summer schedule includes:San Luis Valley | Alamosa, Saguache, Costilla and Conejos counties | July 6-10Northwest Mountains | Moffat and Jackson counties | July 27-Aug. 2San Juan Mountains | Mineral and Hinsdale counties | Aug. 10-14“The best version of 988 Colorado is one that’s shaped by the communities it serves,” said Chloe Rekow, marketing and outreach specialist for the 988 Colorado Mental Health Line. “That’s why we’re hitting the road to listen, to learn and to build the relationships that make lasting change possible. When people across Colorado know that 988 is here for them, and when they trust it, that ‘’ when lives change. ”About the 988 Colorado Mental Health LineThe 988 Colorado Mental Health Line (988 Colorado) is the easy-to-remember three-digit number that allows anyone with an emotional, mental health or substance use concern to immediately connect with a trained specialist who will listen without judgment. 988 Colorado is free, confidential and available 24/7.
