Africa's Gaming Industry Faces Balancing Act Between Regulation, Investment

As Africa’s gaming industrycontinues to expand, operators, regulators, and investors are grappling with the challenge of sustaining growth while strengthening regulatory oversight, consumer protection, and responsible gaming practices. These issues are expected to dominate discussions at the 2027 iGaming AFRIKA Summit (iGA Summit), scheduled to hold in Nairobi, Kenya, where industry stakeholders will examine how Africa can attract fresh investment without compromising regulatory standards. The Chief Executive Officer of iGaming AFRIKA, Jeremiah Maangi, said the summit will focus on fostering stronger collaboration among stakeholders as the industry continues to evolve. According to him, discussions will cover regulatory reforms, emerging technologies, payment systems, cryptocurrency, advertising and marketing standards, responsible gaming, esports, and community empowerment. Maangi noted that Africa has become one of the fastest-growing frontiers for the global gaming industry, making dialogue among policymakers, operators, regulators, and investors increasingly important. He said: “Africa is no longer an emerging gaming market; it is one of the industry’s fastest-growing frontiers. The iGA Summit exists to connect the people, ideas, and investments that will shape the next chapter of that growth, and we’re excited to welcome an even broader international audience in 2027. ”Maangi added that the summit will build on the success of its inaugural edition by creating more opportunities for investment, innovation, and knowledge-sharing across Africa’s gaming ecosystem. According to the organisers, participants from more than 120 countries are expected to attend the summit, alongside an expanded exhibition featuring gaming operators, regulators, investors, technology companies, and other key industry stakeholders. They added that feedback from the inaugural edition has informed preparations for the 2027 summit, with the aim of delivering broader engagement, deeper policy discussions, and greater value for participants across Africa’s rapidly growing gaming industry.
