Agropur Sells Fine Cheese Business to Lactalis

As part of its efforts to simplify and optimize its operations and focus on its value‑added strategic activities, Agropur announces that it has entered into an agreement with Lactalis for the sale of its fine cheese business. The transaction includes, namely, the Oka and Saint‑Hyacinthe plants, as well as brands associated with this product category. “This decision has been carefully considered and is intended to strengthen the cooperative’s long-term competitiveness and ensure its sustainability. Although profitable, the fine cheese business represents only a small portion of our operations, accounting for approximately 2% of our consolidated revenue and 2% of the milk processed in our Canadian plants,” saidRoger Massicotte, president of Agropur. “Over the coming years, Agropur will focus its efforts and investments on strategic activities that generate the highest value for its dairy farmer members, namely the production of fluid milk, including value-added milk, industrial cheese, butter and dairy ingredients. This decision will also enable us to strengthen our position as the dairy partner of choice for the food industry and continue offering healthy, high-quality products that meet the evolving needs of our customers,” remarkedÉmile Cordeau, chief executive officer. “Agropur acknowledges the historical importance of its fine cheese business in Québec and wishes to highlight the expertise and dedication of the employees who contributed to this sector. Agropur will work closely with Lactalis until the transaction is completed to ensure an orderly transition for employees and partners,” addedOlivier Gardère, President, Category Cheese, Canada. This transaction remains subject to approval by regulatory authorities and to customary, applicable closing conditions. Agropur is the largest dairy cooperative in Canada and one of the leading suppliers ofdairy productsin the retail, food service, and industrial sectors in North America. Founded in 1938, the Cooperative is a source of pride for its 2,700 members based in Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, as well as for its 7,000 employees. Operating 28 plants in Canada and the United States, Agropur generated revenues of $8. 9 billion CAD in 2025 and processed 6. 7 billion litres of milk.
