Amid such a situation, a post has caught the attention of people online, where the management of an IT firm denied remote work despite multiple requests, sparking a familiar debate on Indian workplace culture. The incident came to light after an employee at the Ahmedabad-based IT firm shared a screenshot of an internal conversation, where they claimed that the majority of employees had sought permission to work from home because of the heavy rain and the challenges caused by it. " In the follow-up message, another person appeared to clarify the company’s stance, saying, “Late coming doesn’t mean waiting for the rain to stop, but if somebody is stuck in traffic due to rain, then we can allow it. "The employee, who shared the screenshot, criticised the decision, writing, “Something wrong with these managers. " They shared that continuous heavy rainfall in the area had prompted several employees to request work from home as travelling had become difficult. “We’ve had continuous heavy rainfall since morning, and many employees requested WFH because commuting was difficult. This was the response from management," they said. “This feels unnecessarily rigid for an IT company. "“Look For New Opportunities"In no time, the post went viral, with several users questioning why an IT company insisted on physical attendance when employees could work remotely in such weather conditions, while some said that companies should prioritise safety over attendance policies. “It makes no sense for IT companies to enforce in-office work. Our clients are overseas; our team can communicate over virtual calls. Places that have paperwork, have to go on site, or have to deal with physical assets make sense to be present in the office. Remote work is so much more productive, comfortable, efficient and can be handled with proper monitoring channels for avoiding moonlighting," wrote a user. Another person said, “Really a clown with red alert already issued day earlier and on mobile too to everyone. "“I just don’t understand if work can be done from home, why must we always be coming to the office ??? Like pls chill," commented an individual. Someone else shared, “Look for new opportunities away. It’s difficult to find a good work culture in Gujarat.
