Apple is expanding its wearable technology ambitions beyond smartphones and smartwatches, aiming to develop health-focused features for upcoming wearable devices like smart glasses and AR headsets. (AI Image)Apple's ambitions in wearable technology may be about to go far beyond smartphones and smartwatches, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the iPhone maker is exploring ways to turn upcoming wearable devices into health and fitness companions, potentially expanding its growing ecosystem of wellness-focused products. While the first-generation smart glasses are still expected to focus on core experiences, future versions could bring advanced health tracking capabilities similar to those found on the Apple Watch. Future Smart Glasses Could Focus On Health And FitnessAs per Mark Gurman, the Cupertino tech giant wants future smart glasses and AR headsets to monitor health and fitness by using multiple onboard sensors capable of tracking body movement and other activity-related data. The reported plan suggests the Tim Cook-led brand is exploring how these wearables could collect fitness information without compromising comfort or portability. Interestingly, this isn't a completely new idea inside Apple. The report claims the company initially considered bringing similar features to the Apple Vision Pro. It was also said to be developing a dedicated version of Apple Fitness+ for the headset, allowing users to wear it during workouts while analysing body movements in real time. However, those plans were reportedly dropped because of "technological hurdles" and the overall weight of the headset. Apple Is Building A Bigger Wearable EcosystemRather than rushing these features into its first smart glasses,Appleis reportedly taking a longer-term approach. Bloomberg says the tech giant is investigating how health sensors can fit into a much smaller glasses form factor before bringing the technology to consumers. The report further explains that Apple's Vision Products Group is hiring a "strategic product design leader," a move that could hint at the bigger picture for the tech giant's future wearable lineup. If these plans materialise, Apple's smart glasses may eventually work alongside products like the Apple Watch and AirPods, which already offer features such as health monitoring and hearing assistance. The Bloomberg report comes shortly after another leak suggested Apple has delayed its first smart glasses launch until the first half of 2027. The smart glasses are now most likely to debut during WWDC 2027, giving developers more time to build apps and optimise experiences before the product reaches consumers.
