ArtWalla has put out a summer art call. ArtWalla intern for marketing Carmen Nally is looking for student or emerging artists interested in gaining community exposure, building an artist portfolio and connecting with other creatives. Participants will have their work showcased in downtown Walla Walla, with the location to be determined. Reach out to Nally atnallyc@whitman. edufor more details and provide a full name, email contact and, if applicable, student major and graduation year. For each artwork submitted, provide a title of the piece, the medium and dimensions in inches. A nonprofit, ArtWalla encourages and empowers local creative artists, engages the community and enriches life in the Walla Walla Valley. When founded in 1992 as Blue Mountain Arts Alliance, its goal was to facilitate the acquisition of public art and education about that art. “ArtWalla’s legacy is visually evidenced by the stunning collection of public art gracing Walla Walla’s historic downtown core,” according to a statement atartwalla. com. In 2011, ArtWalla’s leadership transitioned to an all-volunteer board committed to the challenging work of restructuring to serve the broader arts community. The organization prioritizes funding from membership dues and annual fundraisers to provide grants to assist its efforts to enrich artistic vitality and artistic opportunities in the Valley. “Our goal is simple: to serve as a catalyst, fostering opportunities for artists and nonprofit arts, culture and education organizations to enhance their skills and programs,” according to the website. Retired editor/journalist Annie Charnley Eveland freelances the Etcetera column and stories for the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin. Reach out toacereporter1979@gmail. comor call 509-386-7369.
