24th June 2026 – (Beijing) Bangladeshi Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Beijing by high‑speed train on Wednesday, commencing a three‑day official visit to China that runs from 24th to 26th June. The trip marks his first visit to China since the formation of Bangladesh’s new government on 12 February this year. Observers say the visit carries considerable weight as Dhaka seeks to bolster investment, expand trade and navigate ongoing economic challenges. China has long been regarded as one of Bangladesh’s principal development partners, contributing to numerous infrastructure and connectivity projects. Analysts suggest that the current visit could pave the way for broader cooperation beyond traditional sectors. Ali Ahmad Mabrur, an international affairs analyst, said expectations in Bangladesh are high that Beijing will deepen its engagement, particularly in health, education and technology. He noted that Bangladeshi traders and entrepreneurs have maintained close commercial ties with China for years and expressed hope that further facilities and preferential arrangements could be extended to support business exchanges. Al Mamun Mridha, former Secretary‑General of the Bangladesh China Chamber of Commerce and Industry, described the visit as pivotal for advancing the Prime Minister’s five‑year development, trade and investment agenda. He said enhanced cooperation with China could play a vital role in raising living standards and delivering economic benefits across all levels of Bangladeshi society.
