He is to start work in September at the Belleville and Quinte West Community Health Centre's Belleville clinic. Photo by Supplied/City of BellevilleBelleville council has inked a deal to recruit yet another new family doctor, this time for the Belleville and Quinte West Community Health Centre. Starting in September, Dr. Uyi Namuna will work full-time at the centre’s Belleville clinic, the city announced Monday after council approved the recruitment. Recommended VideosNamuna comes to Belleville from the United Kingdom, where he works as a general practitioner. His work at the local centre will see him tending to some of the city’s most vulnerable residents. “I’m delighted to be joining the Belleville community as a family physician,” Namuna said in a city news release. “I’m looking forward to putting down roots here, getting to know my patients and their families, and providing compassionate care for the community I’m now proud to call home. ”“Dr. Uyi Namuna and his family are in the process of moving to Belleville and I know our community will embrace them with open arms,” Mayor Neil Ellis said in the release. “Dr. Namuna is an experienced physician that will use his special skills and abilities to ensure his patients receive the best care possible,” said Ellis. “Council is very pleased to welcome Dr. Namuna and his family to our city and we look forward to working with him for many years to come. ”The city has now recruited about 70 doctors and 10 nurse practitioners. The release noted that while health care and doctor recruitment are not municipal responsibilities – they’re provincial matters – the city’s recruitment program is one of the most successful ones in Ontario. The program is funded in part by the city’s dividends as a shareholder in Elexicon Energy: more than $9 million to date has been directed to recruiting primary care providers. People in need of a provider should register with Ontario’s Health Care Connect (HCC), a service used by providers and government to link patients with providers. “Registering with HCC is the key to finding primary health care in Ontario,” the release stated. Register by calling1-800-445-1822(TTY:1-800-387-5559) or by visiting theHCC website.
