Press Release – Tauranga City CouncilThe southbound lane closure will be reinstated on the night of Sunday 12 July and will remain in place until Sunday 19 July as planned. Thursday 9 July 2026The temporary southbound lane closure currently in place on Ōropi Road between Maleme Street and SH29A will be lifted between Friday 10 July and Sunday 12 July, to give road users full access over the long weekend. This closure is in place to enable critical slip repair works below Ōropi Road. Minimal traffic management will remain in place through the work site over the long weekend, including a temporary 30km/h speed limit, and drivers are asked to take extra care when travelling through the area. The southbound lane closure will be reinstated on the night of Sunday 12 July and will remain in place until Sunday 19 July as planned. After that, the works will move away from the road to build the rock wall, allowing both traffic lanes to reopen while the remainder of the project is completed, with only nighttime lane closures planned towards the end of the project.
