11th July 2026 – (Beijing) China’s State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has initiated a Level IV emergency response in several provinces as Typhoon Bavi advances towards the country’s eastern seaboard. According to the Ministry of Emergency Management, precautionary measures have been put in place in Shanghai, Jiangsu, Anhui and Jiangxi in eastern China, as well as Sichuan Province in the southwest, amid mounting concerns over heavy rainfall and strong winds. Bavi, the ninth typhoon of the year, is forecast to make landfall in the early hours of Sunday along the Zhejiang coastline, between the cities of Sanmen and Cangnan. Meteorologists expect the storm to move in a north‑westerly direction after coming ashore before gradually turning further north. As of 9am on Saturday, the typhoon was positioned roughly 460 kilometres south‑east of the Zhejiang‑Fujian border. Authorities reported sustained maximum winds of up to 42 metres per second near its centre, signalling the potential for significant disruption. Earlier in the day, the National Meteorological Centre issued its highest‑level red warning for rainstorms and an orange alert for typhoons, urging local governments to strengthen disaster prevention efforts and advising residents to take necessary safety precautions.
