China has detained several Japanese nationals, including senior executives of companies operating in China, over alleged violations of export restrictions on dual-use goods, according to Japan’s Mainichi newspaper, which cited multiple sources. Some of those detained were reportedly taken into custody after entering China, with Chinese authorities seeking their cooperation in ongoing investigations. They were detained over allegations related to the export of rare-earth products. In late June, China’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that two Japanese nationals had been detained for alleged legal violations. Japansaid it had been informed that the individuals were suspected of smuggling items prohibited from export.
