Source: Xinhua1st July 2026 – (Beijing) China has called for sustained momentum in negotiations between the United States and Iran, stressing that dialogue remains the preferred path towards stability in the Middle East. Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks on 30th June during talks in Beijing with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud. Wang said the immediate priority was to safeguard and implement the existing memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, maintain progress in negotiations and strive for an early comprehensive agreement acceptable to both parties, regional states and the wider international community. Describing the current ceasefire as fragile, Wang emphasised that “talking is better than fighting” and that dialogue should prevail over confrontation. He added that China welcomed the resumption of US‑Iran discussions and stood ready to work with Saudi Arabia to help ease tensions and promote lasting regional peace. Beijing, he said, also supports Riyadh in playing a greater role in international and regional affairs and in upholding the authority of the United Nations while advancing a fairer global governance system. Turning to bilateral ties, Wang described Saudi Arabia as a key member of the Arab and Islamic worlds and an important force in an increasingly multipolar global order. He said China regards the kingdom as a strategic partner based on mutual respect, trust and mutually beneficial cooperation. Since the establishment of their comprehensive strategic partnership a decade ago, relations have become a model of collaboration among countries of the Global South, he added. Wang called for continued high‑level exchanges and fuller use of the joint high‑level committee mechanism to coordinate cooperation across sectors. He urged both sides to harness their complementary strengths, refine trade structures, expand two‑way investment and deepen collaboration in areas including green development and modernisation. Prince Faisal said Saudi Arabia values its relationship with China and remains firmly committed to the one‑China principle. He pledged to enhance cultural and people‑to‑people exchanges while expanding practical cooperation in investment, finance, energy and artificial intelligence. The Saudi minister also expressed support for China’s major global initiatives and said Riyadh was prepared to strengthen multilateral coordination with Beijing to safeguard the interests of developing nations. He praised China’s constructive role in efforts to de‑escalate tensions in the Middle East and voiced hope for closer cooperation to restore stability in the region.
