Ciena Appoints Prashant Ramesh Malkani To Lead India Business

Ciena has appointed Prashant Ramesh Malkani, Vice President and Country Leader, Ciena India, to lead its India business. Reporting to Amit Malik, Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific, Japan, and India, Ciena, Malkani will oversee the company's strategy and operations in one of its key growth markets. Networks Become Central To The AI EraAs AI applications generate larger volumes of data and require faster connectivity, network infrastructure is becoming a strategic priority for service providers and enterprises alike. The focus is no longer limited to adding bandwidth but also ensuring networks can support increasingly complex digital workloads. Malkani joins Ciena with more than 25 years of experience across the telecommunications and technology sectors. Most recently, he led Nokia India's network infrastructure business. Throughout his career, he has worked across both service provider and enterprise segments, giving him experience in areas that are becoming increasingly relevant as network modernization accelerates. Why India Matters To CienaIndia continues to be an important market for Ciena, both commercially and operationally. Explaining the company's outlook, Amit Malik, Vice President and General Manager, Asia Pacific, Japan, and India, Ciena, said, "India is one of the world's fastest-growing internet markets, and few can match the scale of its digital economy and the tremendous opportunities and demand increasingly driven by AI. Prashant brings an exceptional combination of industry expertise, customer focus, and business leadership, and he will help us strengthen our customer relationships and expand our presence in this critical market. "The appointment reflects Ciena's effort to strengthen its leadership as network operators prepare for higher traffic volumes driven by AI services, cloud adoption, and digital transformation initiatives. India's Role Extends Beyond Market GrowthCiena's presence in India is not limited to customer operations. The company says it has supported India's service providers and digital infrastructure operators for more than two decades as demand for bandwidth has continued to grow. India also houses Ciena's largest research and development center outside North America. With more than 2,000 employees, the facility contributes to the development of networking, automation, and AI-ready technologies that support the company's global operations. That combination of market opportunity and engineering capability makes India an important part of Ciena's long-term business strategy. Leadership appointments often reflect where companies expect future demand to emerge. For Ciena, strengthening its India leadership comes at a time when AI adoption is increasing pressure on digital infrastructure and network performance. As enterprises and telecom operators prepare networks for AI-driven workloads, investment priorities are likely to extend beyond capacity to resilience, automation, and operational efficiency. Companies with strong regional leadership and execution capabilities will be better positioned to support that transition.
