Clarion Call in Adamawa: Youths Urged to Step Up in Politics, Business Ahead of 2027 - TG News

2027 general elections, urging them to embrace constitutional awareness, peaceful political engagement, entrepreneurship and responsible citizenship. The organisation made the call during a capacity-building and sensitisation programme on youth activism, constitutional awareness and responsible civic engagement, organised under the theme, “Empowering Youths for Responsible Civic Engagement and Democratic Participation. ”The programme, which focused on preparing young people for meaningful participation in the 2027 elections, also featured discussions on entrepreneurship, skills acquisition, job creation and economic empowerment for youths and women. Giving an overview of the programme, Chairman of Clarion Call Organisation (CCO), Dr. Kube Dwana, said the initiative was designed to equip young people with the knowledge and skills needed to become responsible citizens and economically independent members of society. Dwana stressed the importance of moving young people from the position of job seekers to job creators, noting that government alone could not provide employment opportunities for everyone. He encouraged participants to acquire practical skills, learn how to manage them effectively and use entrepreneurship as a pathway to financial independence. According to him, empowering young people economically would not only improve their individual livelihoods but also contribute to reducing unemployment, poverty and the number of youths roaming the streets without productive engagement. The programme also emphasised the role of successful entrepreneurs in creating employment opportunities for others, with participants encouraged to build businesses capable of absorbing unemployed youths within their communities. Representing the Director-General of the Adamawa State Agency for Skills Acquisition and related empowerment initiatives, Mr. Sani Abubakar said the government was willing to collaborate with organisations such as Clarion Call Adamawa to support youths and small business owners. Abubakar advised participants interested in accessing government-backed opportunities to properly register their businesses with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and ensure that their necessary documentation was complete. He explained that the agency was liaising with companies and organisations to create opportunities for entrepreneurs, including possible access to financial institutions offering soft loans at relatively low interest rates. He urged members of Clarion Call and other organisations to register with the relevant government agencies so that their members could be identified and considered for available empowerment and financing programmes. Abubakar also highlighted skills acquisition opportunities available through government training centres, saying participants could access courses lasting four months, six months or one year, depending on the chosen vocation. He cited tailoring as an example of a six-month course, while catering and barbing could be completed within four months, with areas such as solar installation, electrical and electronics requiring longer training periods. He encouraged youths and parents to take advantage of the training opportunities to acquire practical skills that could provide sustainable livelihoods. Also speaking, Joseph Tumba Kwatri, Chief Executive Officer of Luka Memorial, took participants through strategies for identifying, establishing and managing small businesses. Kwatri advised aspiring entrepreneurs to begin with proper market research, data collection and analysis before investing in a business. He encouraged young people to immerse themselves in their chosen trades by learning directly from established practitioners, including offering services at little or no cost initially in order to understand the business and gain practical experience. He stressed the importance of innovation, urging entrepreneurs to identify products and services that were not readily available in their communities. Kwatri further highlighted the importance of employee motivation and mentorship, saying business owners should create opportunities for their workers to develop new skills and eventually become entrepreneurs themselves. He shared examples of individuals who had progressed from trainees to successful business owners after receiving mentorship and support, stressing that entrepreneurs should be willing to invest their resources and knowledge in developing others. He also warned participants about environmental and security challenges that could affect businesses, particularly conflicts arising from competition over land, water and grazing resources. Kwatri cautioned against what he described as “conflict entrepreneurs,” individuals who exploit insecurity for financial gain through activities such as the sale of drugs or ammunition, and encouraged youths to identify legitimate economic opportunities within their communities. Beyond economic empowerment, Clarion Call Adamawa used the occasion to issue a communiqué calling on Christian leaders, political candidates and citizens to approach the 2027 electoral process with peace, unity and constitutional awareness. The organisation said religious and ethnic sentiments should not be allowed to turn elections into a contest for political ownership, stressing that Adamawa State and Nigeria belong to citizens of all faiths and backgrounds. It urged Christians to respond to perceived religious or political exclusion through constitutional means, including civic education, voter registration, peaceful mobilisation and informed voting, rather than hatred or violence. Clarion Call Adamawa also appealed to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Adamawa State Chapter, to provide civic and political education to Christians while avoiding the imposition of particular candidates on voters. The organisation said CAN should help citizens understand the importance of their votes and encourage them to assess political candidates based on competence, character, integrity, accountability, justice, peace and commitment to development. The group further called on Christian governorship candidates across political parties to conduct peaceful campaigns, respect one another and place the interests of Adamawa State above personal ambition and partisan differences. It urged citizens to register to vote, obtain their Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs), remain informed and participate actively in the electoral process. The organisation maintained that responsible participation in democracy, combined with economic empowerment and skills development, would contribute to building a peaceful, inclusive and prosperous Adamawa State. Clarion Call Adamawa concluded by urging youths and citizens to reject political violence, religious hatred, intimidation and voter apathy while promoting peaceful participation, equal citizenship, good governance and accountability. The organisation’s message was summed up in its call for citizens to “organise, educate, mobilise and vote” responsibly for the future of Adamawa State and Nigeria. 📰 Get Latest News UpdatesJoin our Telegram group and receive breaking and trending news updates directly on your phone.
