ECU Health Beaufort is among 500+ hospitals warned by the Trump administration over price transparency; the system says the issue was technical and has been resolved. ECU Health Beaufort Hospital in Washington is one of more than 500 hospitals across the United States that received a warning from the Trump administration stating they failed to provide transparent information about basic pricing, according to the Associated Press. The AP obtained and published an exclusive list of hospitals that have received warnings from the administration since April. ECU Health has responded to the warning and said the issue has been resolved, according to a spokesperson for the health care system. The issue was not a failure to publish pricing information as initially believed, but technical issues with a machine-readable file that “affected compliance with certain formatting requirements. ”“The CMS (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services) notice for ECU Health Medical Center, which has since been resolved, did not involve a failure to publish pricing information or make a machine-readable file available to the public. Pricing information itself was available to patients. Rather, CMS identified technical issues with the machine-readable file that affected compliance with certain formatting requirements, and the identified technical issues were corrected within the timeframe allowed by CMS,” Ashlin Elliott, with ECU Health Marketing and Communications wrote in an email to the Daily News. “The notice regarding ECU Health Beaufort Hospital involved a separate issue related to its organizational structure as a campus of ECU Health Medical Center. Pricing information was already publicly available as part of our ECU Health Medical Center file. We have since taken additional steps to post a separate machine-readable file for the Beaufort campus to further facilitate patient access to pricing information specific to that location,” Elliott continued. Elliott wrote,”ECU Health remains committed to ensuring patients have access to the information they need to make informed health care decisions and will continue to comply with federal transparency requirements while serving the health care needs of eastern North Carolina.
