Submitted PhotoAHOSKIE - The ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship Committee recently awarded its annual scholarship to a local student. This year's recipient is Klaire Cherry, valedictorian of Ridgecroft School's Class of 2026. Cherry will attend East Carolina University, where she plans to pursue a career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA). Throughout her high school career, Cherry demonstrated exceptional academic achievement, athletic leadership, and a strong commitment to serving her school and community. Cherry's extensive service record includes volunteer efforts supporting Hurricane Helene relief, Operation Christmas Child, hospital caroling, youth coaching, Vacation Bible School leadership, child sponsorship initiatives, and blood drives. She also served as team captain for varsity softball, volleyball and basketball, president of both the Key Club and the Beta Club, and a student leader for Fellowship of Christian Athletes while earning numerous academic and athletic honors. "Congratulations to this year's scholarship recipient, Klaire Cherry," said Dr. David Lingle, chief of medical staff at ECU Health Roanoke-Chowan Hospital. " Klaire has shared her goal of becoming a health care professional who not only understands the science behind anesthesia but also treats every patient with compassion, dignity, and respect. Her exceptional academic achievement, leadership and dedication to serving others make her an outstanding recipient of this scholarship. "The scholarship was established in 2016 by the hospital medical staff under the direction of Dr. David Lingle and Dr. Madhu Parmar and is funded by the medical staff.
