Shame, shame, shame on the Sun Sentinel for itsinflammatory anti-Israel editorial(A turning point in U. S. -Israel relations, June 17). Israel, which is a pro-western democracy, where all are free to live, vote and practice their religion. Israel, who votes with the United States more than 90% of the time in the U. N. , one of the highest of any country in the world. Israel, which is surrounded by Islamist states who openly want the destruction of the Jewish state. Israel, who will text and drop leaflets as a warning sign to civilians in danger zones (no other country in the world does that). Israel, a beacon of innovation. Thankfully, your editorial has no impact and no use besides lining the cat litter box. — Mark Keller, MiamiSkeptical of PalestiniansThe laststatement in your editorialis correct. The Palestinians are entitled to the same rights as everyone else. Like you, I support a two-state solution. There’s just one problem: Can you provide evidence that the Palestinian leadership wants this resolution? The Palestinian leadership has been offered independence several times, yet they have failed to broker a deal with Israel. A video of former President Bill Clinton recently revealed that former PLO leader Yassir Arafat was not interested in a deal or peace, just a desire to kill Jews. I am just as frustrated with Benjamin Netanyahu’s government, but until the Palestinians elect leaders who desire to live in peace with Israel, there will be no two-state solution. — Barry Silber, Lutz, Fla. Candor without crueltyfortlauderdale. govAt a June 2, 2026 meeting, Fort Lauderdale Commissioner Steve Glassman publicly called out resident Ted Inserra for comments from the audience: “Bad upbringing, Ted. Really bad upbringing. ” (The closed captioning system showed “Ted” as “10. ”)Steven Glassman’s office of city commissioner in Fort Lauderdale is a public trust, not a stage for personal attacks. Calling out a constituent’s “really bad upbringing” is unkind and cruel. It crossed the line from vigorous debate to personal degradation. Elected officials are expected to model respect, not weaponize private hardship to silence disagreement. When a leader resorts to condescension, he undermines public confidence, erodes civil discourse and distracts from the real issues residents have elected them to address. Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Steve Glassman (center) is in his third term. It will expire in November 2028. This isn’t about thin skin — it’s about accountability. The city should demand a clear apology, insist on a commitment to better conduct and push for procedures that prevent future abuses of power. If the commission won’t act, voters deserve to know who treats constituents with dignity and who treats them as targets. Hold Glassman to the standard the office requires: candor without cruelty, firmness without contempt. — Richard Saladino, Fort LauderdaleIt’s time to mute TrumpThis Olde Smart Aleck (age 85) has just heard that Fox is going to take overthe streaming platform Roku(at a cost of $22 billion). Roku streams Scripps News. I find Scripps informed and reasonably dignified and hopeful. I hope its editorial tone is left unchanged as a result of this merger. Bankrupted of all but for his threats and insults, President Trump should be muted. Simply show one dignified still photo of him, then have an announcer dryly read a verbatim sentence or two of what he said. — Robert Cogan, Boynton BeachPlease submit a letter to the editor by email toletterstotheeditor@sunsentinel. comor fill out the online form below.
