Did you have any mentors throughout your career and how did they influence you?My supervising partner at the first firm I worked at introduced me to litigation and in particular construction law, which I didn’t even know was a thing at university! He also talked to me about the realities of partnership and how a law firm operates, which has been invaluable information as it is often not spoken about. What was your first job?Jessica Perry – AssociateI worked multiple summers in a vineyard throughout university. It was hard, physical work, but also a lot of fun and funnily enough, having that on my CV was a big factor in being offered my first job in law! Working in a vineyard prepared me for working in law in a number of ways. Firstly, it helped to develop a good work ethic. It also showed the importance of team work and working with a variety of different personalities – something that is important when it comes to working in an office environment and dealing with clients as no two are the same. Throughout your career what was a highlight for you? There have been a couple of highlights that stand out. I was lucky enough to be involved from the very start in a case that went all the way to the Supreme Court. It was incredible to see the process the whole way through. Even more so when our losses in the High Court and Court of Appeal were ultimately overturned by the Supreme Court. I was also lucky enough to attend the Litigation Skills Course last year thanks to Braun Bond and Lomas. What do you believe contributes to your success?Definitely the people around me. Having supportive family and friends is incredibly important. However, the biggest thing I have found that contributes to my success is working alongside driven, talented people. It’s much easier to do good work when you enjoy what you do and who you do it with. About Author
