Published 7:02 pm Thursday, July 23, 2026TIFTON — A family of hunters and woodsmen hope to share their passion for the great outdoors with the Tiftarea community through a new store right here in Tifton. Members of the Bowen family broke ground the morning of July 23 to mark the start of construction on their new business Heritage Outdoors, a sporting goods and hunting supply store intended not only to be by outdoorsmen, for outdoorsmen, but to celebrate the same traditions of its roots. Founded through a family partnership between brothers John and Michael Bowen and their father, the business will aim to cater to experienced as well as casual enjoyers of nature, stocking hunting equipment and gear, firearms and ammunition, camouflage, and apparel and footwear for men, women, and children. John Bowen explained that he and his family possessed a storied family tradition of hunting and outdoorsing, and, believing that several others shared that heritage, had been motivated along with his brother and father since 2019 to establish their business and connect with the passion for nature that others in the Tift and South Georgia communities shared. “We think that to experience the outdoors is, in some sense, to be in a direct bond, a conversation, with heritage,” he said. “We arrive at Heritage Outdoors to celebrate that perspective. ”Bowen hoped to have the business constructed and open by late winter of this year, at which point the family planned to host an official grand opening complete with giveaways, promotional events, and representatives from the store’s partner brands.
