Five new Llandeilo business units open to tenants

Five new business units are complete at Beechwood Industrial Estate inLlandeilo, in a £3m publicly funded scheme theWelsh Governmentsays answers a shortage of workspace the town itself identified. According to the government, engagement with the community before the project identified a need for more employment space in the area. The government says it has put more than £3m into the 7,000 sq ft development, built as a joint venture withCarmarthenshire County Council. Demand for this kind of space in the county appears real, on the two governments’ own figures. When Beechwood was still under construction in February, they reported their sister site at Cross Hands, Parc Gelli Werdd, already around 70% let across its 26 workshops and offices. The government says interest in the Llandeilo units is already strong, with one of the larger ones expected to be occupied soon. The units are designed, it says, to hit a net zero carbon in-operation target and keep tenants’ energy costs down, with solar panels, electric vehicle charging points, high levels of insulation and sustainable drainage, plus the flexibility to add battery storage later. The council says the project delivers on its Ten Towns programme, its long-running effort to shore up the economies of the county’s rural market towns, while the government counts it under its Property Delivery Plan. Both point to local firms benefiting from the build: the units were constructed by Welsh contractor Korbuild Ltd, and Solar Save Renewables Ltd, which installed the solar energy system, is based less than a mile from the site. Korbuild managing director Mark Cotter said the firm was delighted to work with the Welsh Government, the council and Rhomco on the project. “From its energy-efficient design to the involvement of local suppliers, this development demonstrates how sustainable construction can support both businesses and communities,” he said. Cllr Hazel Evans, the council’s cabinet member for regeneration, leisure, culture and tourism, said the units were “a significant investment in the future of Llandeilo and the wider region”. “By providing modern, energy-efficient space for businesses to establish and grow, we are supporting job creation, strengthening local economies and helping to ensure our towns remain vibrant places to live and work,” she said. For Solar Save, the job was a chance to prove a point about local firms. Managing director Petar Pavlov said the company had been “delighted, as a small local business, to be trusted with a project of this scale and complexity”. “The project has provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the skills and expertise of our team and demonstrates that local companies can successfully deliver high-quality renewable energy solutions,” he said. “We hope it encourages further opportunities for businesses within Carmarthenshire to contribute to major developments across the region. ”Tenancy enquiries can be made with the marketing agents,Alder King.
