INDIANAPOLIS — The Covering Kids and Families Program of the Health and Hospital Corporation (CKF) will host its 26th annual Back to School Community Resource Day on Saturday, July 11 from 8:30a. m. until 12:00 p. m. at the Marion County Public Health Department located at 38 and Rural St. The free event offers families far more than a typical school supply giveaway. Organizers say the day is designed to ensure children are both healthy and fully equipped before the first bell rings. “It’s a unique back to school event,” said Pamela Humes, Director at CKF and event organizer. “It’s not just a simple backpack giveaway or but a resource day for the entire family. ”A range of free health services will be on-site, “We want to make sure our kids are healthy as they get ready to go back to school,” Humes said. “At this event particularly, we provide the sports physicals, immunizations, vision screenings, dental screenings — all those things that they need to be healthy to go back to school. ”Every child who attends will receive a clear backpack filled with school supplies, including pens, pencils, paper and folders. The Indianapolis Fire Department will include at this event their Fire safety Festival with food, fun, games and fire and bike safety demonstrations. The event is made possible through the support of numerous sponsors and community partners who help cover costs, “We have a lot of sponsors and partners that come alongside to provide all these things for free,” Humes said. “We couldn’t do this without them. It costs a lot of money — we rent tents and tables and chairs and water to make sure everybody’s hydrated, so we couldn’t do this without our partners. ”No Registration RequiredFamilies do not need to pre-register to attend. Humes encouraged everyone to simply show up. “Come to the health department, 3838 North Rule, and everything is free,” she said. “Just show up. ”For families who cannot make it July 11, some services will remain available afterward.
