WASHINGTON, D. C. — Political division is becoming a personal safety concern for a growing share of Americans, according to a global survey conducted byGallupand the Lloyd’s Register Foundation. The 2025 World Risk Poll found that 10% of U. S. adults identifiedpoliticsas the greatest risk to their everyday safety, up from 6% in both 2021 and 2023. That was the highest recorded share among the 140 countries surveyed, although theUnited Stateswas statistically tied with Hungary at 9%. The global average was 1%. Concerns crossed partisan and demographic lines. Gallup found no statistically significant differences based on political affiliation, age, gender or education. Respondents variously blamed political extremism, polarization, theTrumpadministration orDemocrats. Politics was not Americans’ leading overall concern. Road-related accidents ranked first at 34%, followed by crime and violence at 19%. Personal health conditions and mental health were each cited by 5%. The survey also found deep distrust toward government. Fifty-eight percent of Americans said the government does not care about their well-being at all, compared with 47% in 2021. Gallup surveyed nationally representative samples of roughly 1,000 or more adults in most participating countries throughout 2025. The national margins of sampling error ranged from 2. 2 to 5. 5 percentage points. Sources:The Hill–MBFC RatingPost navigation
