China’s expanding military activities represent Japan’s greatest security challenge and “must be addressed through overall national strength and cooperation with allies and like-minded nations,” according to Tokyo’s annual defense white paper released on Tuesday. The 598-page report, approved by Japan’s Cabinet the same day, provides a comprehensive assessment of an increasingly unstable regional security environment. Published in a glossy format, this year’s edition is the longest ever and, for the first time, includes links to short videos explaining Japan’s defense policy, theJapan Timesreported. The Defense Ministry said the feature is intended to engage a wider audience as the government prepares to revise the country’s three key national security documents later this year.
