Kelowna-born entrepreneur, philanthropist and mental health advocate Ryan Beckmann is returning home after nearly two decades away to host Kelowna Coming Home, a fundraising event on August 17 at 19 Okanagan Grill in West Kelowna. Beckmann’s journey has taken him from growing up in Kelowna to building businesses, overcoming addiction and homelessness, surviving multiple suicide attempts, and ultimately dedicating his life to helping others. Today he is the founder of The Last Save, a nonprofit supporting individuals and families affected by mental health challenges, trauma, addiction, and suicide through storytelling, education, scholarships, and community events. He is also the founder of HeroPicks, a charitable fundraising platform that helps nonprofits, youth sports organizations, veterans groups, and community initiatives raise money through prize experiences and interactive campaigns. Over the past several years, Beckmann has appeared on numerous podcasts sharing his recovery journey and mission to serve others. He has also been featured on Office Hours, the business television series hosted by David Meltzer, and is currently working on a book centered on resilience, recovery, and using purpose to create lasting impact. He is a well known public speaker and advocate for mental health, addiction as well as an advocate for SA and DV survivors. The Kelowna event will feature former Green Beret, Seattle Seahawk, actor, and Merging Vets & Players co-founder Nate Boyer, with additional speakers expected to be announced in the coming weeks. Funds raised during the evening will benefit Merging Vets & Players, which helps veterans and former professional athletes rediscover purpose through community, and The Last Save.
