Lake Country council to vote on business park in Glenmore area - West K News

Published 4:15 pm Sunday, July 5, 2026The Lake Country Business Park is taking its next steps in being realized, as council will soon vote on whether or not to rezone the area. The business park is a plan to rezone 81 hectares of underutilized land in what was formerly known as the Glenmore Industrial Lands, and transform the area into a hub for various industries. Council will be giving its first and second deliberations on the matter on Tuesday, July 7. In the council report, it’s stated that all 81 hectares are proposed to be rezoned, adding five new zones in light industrial, medium-format industrial, large format industrial, business park commercial and residential ground-oriented. Five zoning types already existing in the area will remain, including the medium density multiple housing; public park and open space; administration, public service and assembly; utilities; and conservation area zones. “Together, the new zones are intended to help develop a complete neighbourhood that supports business growth, job creation, housing opportunities, and supporting services while ensuring appropriate transitions between industrial and non-industrial uses,” district staff wrote in the report. According to a prior council meeting in December 2025, current plans for the business park sees area stretch from the intersection of Glenmore and Chase Roads all the way north to Glenmore and Seaton Roads. It was also heard in the December meeting that the area was chosen due to the economic activity in surrounding areas, with UBC Okanagan YLW Airport and KF Aerospace all being close to the proposed business park. The current plan sees 41 per cent of the land be allotted for industrial use, split between light, medium and high density formats. The high density industrial makes up the highest portion of all proposed zoning types at 21 per cent. While there are no set tenants yet, potential high-density industry could include operations such as advanced manufacturing centres, logistics facilities and data centres. If the area is rezoned, individual property owners in the business park would be responsible for bringing forth subdivision and development applications. Council is being asked to conduct the first and second readings of the business park rezoning during the Tuesday, July 7 meeting. If it passes, the matter will be sent to a public hearing before being brought back to council for a third reading.
