TheInstitution of Civil Engineers (ICE)has announced that Seb Dance, London’s Deputy Mayor for Transport and the Deputy Chair of Transport for London, will deliver a keynote address at its inaugural Resilient Transport conference. Entitled ‘London – adapting transport networks to meet the challenge of a warmer climate’, his speech will explain how London’s transport network is approaching warmer weather, and explore what that means for the design and enhancement of transport infrastructure. It will also look at the impact for people living and working across the city. The conference, taking place in Manchester from 23 to 25 September, will bring together experts working on the practical answers to the problems transport networks face – climate change, ageing assets, and growing demand. Other speakers include Nicola Bell MBE, Chief Capital Delivery Officer, National Highways; Lisa Constable, Head of Climate Change and Resilience and Adaptation, Network Rail; and Dr Jacob Kam, Chairman, MTR Corporation Limited. Sessions at the conference will explore the value of smart infrastructure, systems-thinking approaches to transport networks, how to embed climate resilience in rural transport infrastructure, and more. Attendees will also have the chance to visit to the Transport for Greater Manchester operational control centre and attend a gala dinner. Sam Gould, Director of Policy and External affairs, ICE, said: “Resilience isn’t a nice to have. With our changing climate and the pressure that growing demand is placing on ageing assets, it’s imperative that transport networks are making changes now to prepare for those around the corner. This conference will bring together experts working on practical solutions to these challenges. ”
