We are waiting for you as a friend of the Belarusian people, and we are ready to do everything to make the visit of you and your delegation a success. ”Aleksandr Lukashenko added that the parties share similar views and positions on the main policy, without interfering with anyone and paying attention primarily to the interests of their own peoples. At the same time, as the President noted, Belarus and Uzbekistan are actively working to link their interests. The Head of State noted that Uzbekistan is among the ten leading economic partners of Belarus and ranks third in terms of mutual trade among the CIS countries. “Of course, it can’t be compared with giant Russia, but the level is really very high. We have made significant progress. When the first President of your country was in power, I dreamed of such a level of relations, but not everything was going smoothly then – but we have made this progress together with you, and so we have such a high level. You were right in saying that we once talked about $1bn [in trade], but we are now openly declaring $2bn, having identified for our governments the areas of activity that will lead us to success,” Aleksandr Lukashenko said. According to the Belarusian leader, it is very important that, in addition to joint projects, the parties could also work with third countries, especially those that are close to Uzbekistan. “These countries have great interest, and we will work together. Moreover, this work has already begun,” he said.
