Newmax host Rob Finnerty is calling out several Republican senators who are claiming to have recently spoken to Senator Mitch McConnell on the phone during his health mystery10:23 ET, 10 Jul 2026As rumors surrounding Mitch McConnell’s health persist, Newmax host Rob Finnerty is calling out the handling of the situation by Republicans. TheKentuckysenator was reportedly admitted to the hospital on June 14, though little information has been revealed about his diagnosis. Gov. Andy Beshear has publicly askedMcConnellto give an update on his health after three weeks of silence, prompting questions about the 84-year-old’s ability to serve in his role. Finnerty, a conservative commentator, challenged several Republican senators who are claiming to haverecently spoken to McConnell on the phone, saying he's doing well and they had lengthy conversations. He continued, “Republican senators John Thune, John Barrasso, even claimed they talked to McConnell this week and had lengthy conversations where they, like debated world peace, negotiated an end to all wars, and solve world hunger, all in the course of twenty minutes, and they expect us good little lemmings to just believe them on their word. ”He then joked that McConnell “probably hasn’t had a lengthy conversation for a long, long time,” cutting to a clip of the senator freezing mid-sentence during a news conference in 2023. McConnell is the longest-serving Senate leader in history, and his health and age have been the subject of debate for the past several years. He announced in February 2025 that he would not be seeking re-election, and his term officially ends in January 2027. Finnerty continued that the situation is reminiscent of President Joe Biden, whose health was questioned after his poor debate performance before the 2024 election. He continued, “Instead of just retiring, this is what we’re left with: a senator or Republican, who apparently went into cardiac arrest last month, and other senators on the right who are covering for him right now, allegedly, reportedly. ”“It’s Joe Biden all over again. Only this time, it is RINOs covering for Mitch McConnell, instead of Democrats covering for Joe Biden,” he said. RINO, meaning Republican In Name Only, is a term used by MAGA supporters for Republicans they deem disloyal to the party. Senate succession law, stripping the governor, who's currently a Democrat, of the ability to fill a Senate seat should it become open before the term ends. Instead, the governor can only call a special election should the seat become vacant, and until that election takes place, there would only be one sitting U. S. senator, Lex18 reports. The MAGA host concluded that if Thune and other Republicans cared about the U. S. , they’d call on McConnell to resign.
