CaoCao's European ambitions test whether Chinese ride-hailing operational scale can transfer across regulatory boundariesChinese ride-hailing platform CaoCao and US autonomous vehicle technology firm May Mobility have announced a partnership to deploy robotaxi services in Europe, combining CaoCao’s fleet operations with May Mobility’s Autonomy-as-a-Service platform. The partnership will initially focus on joint feasibility studies and pilot programmes before progressing to scalable commercial deployment. Under the arrangement, CaoCao serves as fleet owner and operator while May Mobility supplies its autonomy platform, whose architecture integrates deep learning, world models and real-time reasoning to navigate complex road environments. May Mobility currently operates autonomous services in the United States and Japan. The partnership advances CaoCao’s RoboX strategy, unveiled on 18 June, under which the firm is repositioning from a ride-hailing platform into an AI-driven physical mobility technology company. The 100,000 robotaxi deployment target for 2030 sets a clear commercial benchmark for the collaboration. In a statement, Edwin Olson, Chief Executive and Founder of May Mobility, said: “Expanding autonomous ride-hail across new countries takes technology that scales as fast as the operation does, and that is exactly what May Mobility delivers. CaoCao has set an ambitious goal of deploying 100,000 robotaxis by 2030, and we are excited to work together to help realise this vision. ” Gong Xin, Chief Executive of CaoCao, added: “International expansion is a key direction for CaoCao’s autonomous driving business. Europe offers diverse real-world environments and strong potential for robotaxi commercialisation. ”Source:May Mobility
