Mitch McConnell Health Update: Laura Loomer Makes New Claims Amid Lindsey Graham's Death

US NewsEdited by:Rounak BagchiUpdated Jul 12, 2026, 23:26 ISTDespite concerns, McConnell's office has only confirmed his recovery, while former aides and neighbors have dismissed rumors about his health. Republican Senator Mitch McConnell. Photo :APRight-wing activist Laura Loomer has made a series of unverified claims about the health of Republican Senator Mitch McConnell, suggesting without evidence that the longtime Kentucky lawmaker may soon die and questioning renovations taking place at his Washington DC, home. The comments come nearly four weeks after McConnell, 84, reportedly suffered a heart attack and was admitted to hospital. His office has said only that he is recovering and has not released further details about his condition. Writing on X on Saturday, Loomer questioned reports that renovation work was taking place at McConnell's home while he remained hospitalised. "Who the hell renovates their floors when they are in the hospital on life support?" she wrote. "Why would someone who suffered cardiac arrest at 84 years old renovate their floors?"She described the renovations as looking like "a massive coverup" and said the situation was "very dark and twisted". Loomer added that she would not be surprised if an announcement stating McConnell had "peacefully passed away in his sleep" was released "this week". "Then they will say, 'we didn't lie. We did speak to him…' and nobody will be able to say anything," she wrote. On Monday, Loomer claimed that a "high level source close to the White House" had told her McConnell was "brain dead" and would not return to Congress. She did not provide evidence to support the assertion. The claims follow reports that emergency responders were called to McConnell's home on 14 June after he was found unconscious. Emergency dispatch records reportedly described him as unconscious, and first responders performed CPR before he was taken to hospital. McConnell's office and his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, have released little information beyond saying the senator is recovering. Amid growing public interest in his condition, media crews have gathered outside McConnell's Washington home. TMZ reported that a producer saw a man carrying carpet samples and flooring materials into the property on Friday, suggesting renovation work was under way. Former McConnell aide Scott Jennings dismissed speculation about the senator's health during an appearance on CNN on Thursday. He said McConnell was preparing to return to work and rejected online claims that the senator was "dead or a vegetable". According to Jennings, McConnell had been "meeting with some of his staff late this afternoon about a few issues going on over at the Senate". Separately, neighbours quoted by the Daily Mail said McConnell had appeared unwell before his hospitalisation. One neighbour recalled seeing him in a wheelchair looking "pale, with a blank stare, and his mouth hanging open. "Questions have also been raised over Elaine Chao's absence from Washington after McConnell was admitted to hospital. A spokesperson for Chao said she had been on a "long-planned trip in China" and that the senator's condition "did not warrant an immediate return to the US. "Loomer's latest comments came on the same day that Republican Senator Lindsey Graham died following what his office described as "a brief and sudden illness" at the age of 71.
