MN Gun Owners Caucus brings GOP candidates to discuss campaigns along fraud and mental health

(ABC 6 News) – Several Minnesota GOP candidates running for office shared their vision on how we should approach issues associated with guns and the 2nd Amendment, along with other topics, at the monthly MN Gun Owners Caucus breakfast. One of the main concerns coming to light was the number of gun owners that are actually voting in elections. “A lot of it is because they just don’t think they need to go out and vote, a lot of it is because they are democrats, they love their second amendment, but they haven’t put 2 and 2 together,” said Greg Kemple, apart of the Gun Owner’s Caucus himself. GOP gubernatorial candidate Lisa Demuth and Brad Trahan, who is a candidate for one of the Minnesota House seats serving Rochester, spent their time talking about access to more mental health resources. “The earlier we can provide that, is going to make it better for that person, and our communities overall, and I will absolutely look at how we increase capacity because we got kids and adults, but we got kids who are sent out of state for treatment,” Demuth said. Trahan said he doesn’t think the DFL is doing a good enough job at keeping guns out of the hands of bad actors. “I would like democrats to show me one bill, show me one bill, where a law is going to keep a gun out of bad guys hands,” Trahan said. Fraud was also a big topic of conversation, with Republicans also saying cleaning up the mess democrats made remains a priority. However, DFL representatives is Rochester said that they aren’t making it as big of a problem as Republicans make it sound like. Representative Kim Hicks said earlier this year that democrats “are absolutely interested in fraud and have been fighting fraud for many many years. ”Republican caucus leaders said they feel all candidates at Saturday’s meeting have a good sense on protecting the second amendment, and are excited about each campaign with primary season fast approaching.
