Montreal public health issues overdose alert following 8 fatal overdoses involving carfentanil

Montreal public health officials haveissuedan overdose alert following confirmation of eight fatal overdoses involving carfentanil since April 9. Street-drug users — regardless of their consumption method — are being urged to exercise extra caution and adopt reduced-risk consumption practices. “It is advisable to avoid consuming alone and reduce the usual doses. Even a minimal amount of carfentanil could cause an overdose that could lead to death. “Itis also recommended to have a sufficient supply of naloxone on hand in case someone shows signs of an overdose. If in doubt, do not hesitate to use it. ”Public health also notes that the number of non-fatal overdoses in recent months has remained high. Carfentanil has been regularly detected in mixtures sold as fentanyl in the form of “rocks” of different colours. La Direction régionale de santé publique de Montréal a publié une alerte surdose après avoir reçu la confirmation de 8 surdoses mortelles impliquant du carfentanil.
