The first edition of MOVE Week Africa will be piloted from 21–27 September 2026 across the African continent with the African Union, ISCA, sportanddev and many others. You are invited!Visit the MOVE Week Africa websiteMOVE Week is a successful, global campaign, running in Europe since 2012 and in Latin America since 2015! The African Union Sports Council (AUSC), International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA) and the International Platform on Sport and Development (sportanddev) invite you to MOVE on the African continent and co-create the pilot campaign with us in 2026. How does it work?MOVE Week enables grassroots sport, physical activity and play stakeholders to stage local events during the designated week and be part of an international brand and promotional campaign. It is not limited to any place or event, and anyone can join – the more, the better. We welcome all forms of movement, sport and physical activity, including indigenous and traditional games that may showcase the heritage of a country or region. The sky is the limit! We welcome all forms of movement, sport and physical activity, including indigenous and traditional games that may showcase the heritage of a country or region. The platform where events can be registered and promoted, brand materials and supporting tools can be found, is live onmoveweek. org/africa(also in French and Arabic). There is a customizable country page for each nation in Africa which can be translated to a language that national partners/coordinators decide. We will also be very active on social media. Built on active MOVE Agents (event organisers) and National Coordinators and Partners, MOVE Week offers a designated online platform to showcase and promote events under a shared umbrella and campaign. Let’s build a movement for health together across Africa. Why MOVE Week Africa?Physical inactivity is a growing challenge globally as the fourth leading cause of global mortality, contributing to nearly 3. 2 million deaths worldwide annually. This is pronounced among young people, and Africa is no exception. Studies suggest only about 20% of adolescents in Africa meet the WHO’s recommended level of physical activity. Studies suggest only about 20% of adolescents in Africa meet the WHO’s recommended level of physical activity. MOVE Week Africa aims to be part of the solution by promoting opportunities for movement. We want MORE people to be more physically active - for the joy, the health, the inclusion and the education that it brings to people from all walks of life. The MOVE Week is a flagship and celebration of the myriad of opportunities to be active, year-long. MOVE agents, National Coordinators and Partners will be able to showcase the scope of their activities (and their broader work) to their stakeholders and reach more citizens in their local communities. We are looking for Partners and National Coordinators from Africa for the inaugural edition! As a Partner or National Coordinator, you can use your network and reach to engage as many local MOVE Agents as possible. You will be recognized for your capacity to mobilize communities and your leadership in a successful, international campaign. As we grow the campaign in Africa, you will be part of a team that mobilizes financial, media and political support for our common cause of everyday movement and fun.
