The indie animation scene is getting a wildly chaotic, creature-filled shot in the arm. The Nacelle Company has officially acquired global distribution rights toIsla Monstro, a new adult animated sci-fi comedy feature film from Abyssmal Entertainment. Fans of nostalgic monster movies and late-night adult animation didn’t have to wait long to book their stay: the movie launched digitally on June 30th across major VOD platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Google Play. Described by its creators as a spiritual love child ofAqua Teen Hunger Force,South Park, andWeekend at Bernie’s II,Isla Monstrobrings a scrappy, mid-2000s Adult Swim energy to a feature-length B-movie parody. The Plot: A 5-Star Resort for 10-Star MutantsThe film follows Duke, a lovable, chronic underachiever who has failed at every single hair-brained scheme he’s ever attempted. His luck takes a bizarre turn when he accidentally falls off a cruise ship and washes ashore on a mysteriously abandoned, top-secret government island. Duke quickly discovers the island is far from empty. It is entirely overrun by bizarre monsters and genetic experiments left behind by a failed 1980s DARPA “super soldier” project. Rather than panicking, Duke hits upon his grandest idea yet: capitalize on the chaos. He decides to transform the island into a world-class luxury getaway resort, putting the terrifying mutants to work as his hospitality staff—much to the absolute horror of the United States government. An All-Star Voice Cast of Animation LegendsWhile the production boasts a charming, indie DIY aesthetic, its voice roster is packed with heavy-hitting industry icons, cult favorites, and comedy legends:ActorKnown ForJames SchraderDr. Squatch SoapcommercialsJohn DiMaggioFuturama(Bender),Adventure Time(Jake the Dog)Spencer GrammerRick and Morty(Summer Smith)Dana SnyderAqua Teen Hunger Force(Master Shake)Maurice LaMarchePinky and the Brain(The Brain)Christopher SabatDragon Ball Z(Vegeta/Piccolo)Will FriedleBatman Beyond(Terry McGinnis),Boy Meets WorldJuliana HarkavyArrow(Black Canary)James MarstersBuffy the Vampire Slayer(Spike)Harland WilliamsHalf BakedBarry BostwickThe Rocky Horror Picture ShowThe sprawling ensemble also features Harry Lennix, Gigi Edgley, J LaRose, Andre Gower, Kristina Klebe, Dia Frampton, and horror icon LeeAnna Vamp.
