Jackie Baillie claimed it was not Nicola Sturgeon's first time 'dabbling' in fiction following the release of her political memoir14:33, 21 Jun 2026Nicola Sturgeonhas been mocked by political rivals after it was revealed she is returning to front-line politics as the Deputy Prime Minister in a fictional reality TV show. The former First Minister bagged the UK cabinet role in the newSky crisis drama,The Wargame, starring alongside other prominent former politicians. As part of the series, Sturgeon will serve under former Tory minister Michael Gove, who takes on the role of the show's Prime Minister. The four-part series, set six months in the future challenges the panel of politicians to deal with a rapidly escalating simulated militarythreat from Russia. They will deal with minute-by-minute problems relayed via rolling news bulletins, social media footage, military and intelligence reports and unexpected interventions. The TV series is based on Sky News's podcast where politics have to react to an "attack" Russia. Scottish Labour deputy leader Jackie Baillie said of Ms Sturgeon's telly drama debut: "I very much doubt it's the first time she's dabbled in fiction. "This bizarre career move won't distract from the unanswered questions she must answer about her husband's theft. "Tory MP Douglas Lumsden added: "Eyebrows will be raised at Nicola Sturgeon's decision to cash in on a lucrative TV show while her husband awaits sentencing for defrauding SNP members out of £400,000. "This new series claims to put the sharpest political minds to the test. "Let's just hope they don't ask them to spot a motorhome parked a few feet away, or the former SNP leader could be heading for an early exit. "The cabinet will be made of former Scottish Labour leader Jim Murphy, 58, former Conservative Defence Secretary Penny Mordaunt, 53, Labour peer Harriet Harman, 75, Tory peer Sayeeda Warsi, 55, ex-Nato Secretary General Lord George Robertson, 80, and former White House communications director Anthony Scaramuccii, 62. Phil Edgar-Jones, executive director of Sky's Unscripted Originals, said: "We're bringing The Wargame to a whole new audience in a visceral television format. "At a time when we are facing increasing threats from all sides, this series couldn't be more timely. "It comes after Ms Sturgeon has been accused of "cashing in" as she enjoys a book tour flaunting her updated memoir, which is set to include a "chunkier" chapter on Peter Murrell's embezzlement scandal. Murrell, the former chef executive of the SNP, pled guilty to embezzling more than £400,000 over a period of 12 years from the SNP to pay for expensive cars, luxury goods and clothes.
