One step at a timeRecently it was revealed that Nintendo is working on new versions of some of their hardware for Europe that will allow owners to open them up and replace the batteries with ease. This is all being done in accordance with the European Union’s “right to repair” legislation. A new version of the original Switch 1 Joy-Cons with removable batteries will also be released, and now we have more info on exactly how that process will work. Nintendo UK has shared anofficial pagewith detailed instructions on how to replace the batteries in the original Joy-Cons. Here they mention that the instructions are intended for use with the Nintendo Battery Replacement Kit, which they say will be available for purchase from the Nintendo Store sometime in the future. These products should begin rolling out over the remainder of 2026 and into 2027, but we don’t know exactly when they’ll be available yet. In any case, it seems that Nintendo has decided to offer official kits and instructions, rather than having consumers rely on third party solutions only. Click hereto see the instructions for yourself, complete with step by step photos. Just don’t try this on your current Joy-Cons, as these instructions are designed only for the removable battery versions which will be released exclusively in Europe.
