Osun Election: Adeleke Declares Friday Public Holiday, Mobilises Workers for Poll - Ben Television | Breaking - Nigeria, Africa and World Top News.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has declaredFriday, August 14, 2026, a work-free day for public servantsahead of Saturday’s governorship election. The decision is aimed at giving workers time to travel, where necessary, and make adequate preparations to exercise their constitutional right to vote. The declaration was contained in a memo issued by the state Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina. However, workers engaged in essential and emergency duties are exempted from the directive. Adeleke also urged public servants, their families and associates to come out in large numbers to participate in the election and protect their votes. Addressing workers ahead of the poll, the governor commended labour leaders and state employees for their support for his administration, describing the relationship between the government and organised labour as mutually beneficial. “The time for action has come. As formal workers at state establishments, I task you to mobilise informal workers, artisans and professional bodies. We must remain strong in defence of our constitutional rights to vote and be voted for,” Adeleke said. The governor urged workers to mobilise across their communities and ensure that citizens participate actively in the election. He also called on them to defend what he described as the achievements of his administration over the past three and a half years, urging voters to support the continuation of his policies and programmes. “Ours is a workers-friendly government which has delivered across board to labour and Osun people. We cannot and must not allow a return to dark days,” he added. The Osun governorship election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, with voters across the state expected to elect the governor for the next four-year term.
