The export was processed through theGwadar Free Zone, highlighting Pakistan’s growing role in supplying specialized livestock products to international markets. The first shipment, produced by Chinese companyHangeng, successfully cleared customs atTianjin Portin China after meeting all veterinary inspection, certification, and regulatory requirements of both countries. The consignment consists of frozen boneless donkey meat processed at a modern facility established in Gwadar Free Zone. The export is the result of years of bilateral cooperation following the finalization of sanitary protocols for donkey meat and hides between Pakistan and China. China has strong demand for donkey meat and hides, particularly for the production ofEjiao, a traditional medicinal product made from donkey hide gelatin. Officials believe the initiative could open new opportunities for Pakistan’s livestock sector by increasing exports, attracting foreign investment, and generating employment in Balochistan. The Gwadar processing facility, built with Chinese investment, is expected to play a key role in expanding exports of donkey meat and related products while ensuring that production complies with international food safety standards. Pakistan is home to one of the world’s largest donkey populations, and industry experts believe the sector has considerable export potential if supported by sustainable breeding programs and modern processing facilities. Authorities have emphasized that exports will remain subject to strict veterinary and regulatory oversight to ensure quality and maintain livestock sustainability.
