Pony. ai ties up with JD. com for China robotaxi maintenance | Automotive World

Pony. ai's deal with JD Auto Service signals that robotaxi scale requires as much service infrastructure as it does technologyPony. ai has signed an agreement with JD Auto Service, JD. com’s automotive maintenance business, to build a standardised maintenance and spare-parts network for its robotaxi fleet in China. The partnership initially covers Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, as Pony. ai targets a worldwide fleet of more than 3,500 vehicles across more than 20 cities by year-end 2026. Under the agreement, JD Auto Service will connect its service network with Pony. ai’s fleet management platform to coordinate maintenance capacity and parts supply. The companies will also integrate their systems for work-order dispatch, service tracking, and settlement, automating the process from fault detection through to completion. Dr. James Peng, Founder and Chief Executive of Pony. ai, said robotaxi commercialisation is as much an operational challenge as a technological one, with vehicle availability, service consistency, and lifecycle costs becoming critical unit economics drivers as the fleet scales. The company has already achieved unit economics breakeven in Guangzhou and Shenzhen on its seventh-generation robotaxi platform. For Pony. ai, access to JD Auto Service’s established network reduces the need to build separate maintenance infrastructure in each new market, supporting faster deployment and improved capital efficiency. The agreement broadens Pony. ai’s operational ecosystem beyond technology development and vehicle manufacturing to encompass Level 4 fleet maintenance at commercial scale. Source:Pony. ai
