While he has yet to announce plans to step down, the monarchmade a major changeto the future of the royal family in 2019. In a move also made later byQueen Margrethe of Denmark, he announced that he was stripping the official His/Her Royal Highness titles from the children of Prince Carl Philip and Princess Madeleine. Only the direct line of inheritance, from Crown Princess Victoria, her children and on, will maintain the HRH titles. “The decision was to make clear who within the royal family will act as official representatives of Sweden in the future. For me, this is a way of clarifying what expectations are,” the King said in his announcement. “It will hopefully be helpful when my grandchildren eventually carve out their own future. But, to that day, it is far away. ”Prince Carl Philip responded to the decision to strip his children of their titles in a social media statement, saying in part, “We see this as positive as [our children] will have freer choices in life. ”Read the original article onPeople
