RETN launches London-Brussels route to boost UK-Europe network resilience - Capacity

HomeNewsRETN launches London-Brussels route to boost UK-Europe network resilience22 July 20262 minutesRETN has launched a new London-Brussels internet route, aiming to strengthen the resilience of its UK-Mainland Europe network through greater geographic diversity. Saf MalikSenior Content and Insights ManagerThe independent global network service provider said the investment responds to the concentration of international traffic across a limited number of established UK-Europe routes, alongside growing industry awareness of vulnerabilities affecting subsea and terrestrial infrastructure. Much of the UK’s international traffic currently passes through established hubs such as Amsterdam and Paris. RETN’s new Brussels route offers an alternative path into mainland Europe, reducing reliance on these traditional transit points and aiming to improve service continuity for customers with business-critical connectivity needs. The route is underpinned by newly built Rotterdam-Brussels dark fibre, which will form the basis of RETN’s own DWDM network in Belgium, giving the company greater operational control over this part of its infrastructure. Within London, the route takes a distinct exit path, avoiding the heavily used Docklands egress corridor that carries significant international traffic from East London’s data centre clusters. It also uses a different landing station from RETN’s previously announced low-latency CrossChannel route, which departs from Slough, adding a further layer of physical diversity for UK traffic. “Building resilient networks is no longer simply about adding capacity – it’s about creating genuine physical diversity,” said Tony O’Sullivan, CEO of RETN. “Customers need unique alternatives that strengthen business continuity. ”RELATED STORIESRETN eyes Southern Europe growth with Barcelona PoP and 2Africa linkRETN rolls out hundreds of 400G pluggables in Eurasian network upgradeITW Asia 202601 December 2026ITW Asia brings together the whole connectivity and digital infrastructure industry to get business done.
