Published 12:15 pm Tuesday, July 14, 2026Revelstoke’s hospital isn’t experiencing service disruptions while nurses have been striking elsewhere in B. C. and mediation now begins, Interior Health (IH) says. The Queen Victoria Hospital and other IH medical centres are not seeing “escalated job action” despite the BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) picketing in Vancouver, Surrey, Victoria and Nanaimo the previous two weeks after issuing a 72-hour strike notice June 29. For months, nurses in the province have raised issues about unsafe staffing levels, unsafe workplaces, unmanageable workloads and unfair compensation. Recent job actions on Vancouver Island and in the Lower Mainland have included nurses refusing to perform non-nursing duties or work non-essential overtime hours. On Monday, July 13, BCNU shared that the Nurses’ Bargaining Association has begun mediated discussions with the Health Employers Association of BC. The Queen Victoria Hospital in Revelstoke continues to operate from 8:30 a. m. to 6 p. m. Mondays to Fridays for visiting hours, and 24-7 for emergency intake.
