Rouge to Take Over Four Air Canada Europe Routes in Summer 2027

Air Canada is transfering four European routes to its leisure subsidiary Rouge for Summer 2027,accordingtoAeroroutes. The affected services will be operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft:Halifax–Brussels, from 17JUN, 2027Montréal–Reykjavík Keflavík, from 01JUN, 2027Toronto Pearson–Ponta Delgada, from 17JUN, 2027Toronto Pearson–Reykjavík Keflavík, from 02JUN, 2027 (This route is already served by Rouge for NS26)The move follows Rouge's introduction of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8 fleet addition in May, ascoveredbyOpen Jaw. At the time, Vincent Gauthier-Doré, Air Canada's Managing Director for Canada and US Sales, described the move as "much more than a fleet change. "“It is a major step in bringing the Air Canada mainline experience and the Air Canada Rouge experience closer together, especially on the leisure routes that matter most to your customers,” he said. Rouge planes feature renewed cabins with personal seatback entertainment at every seat, complimentary Wi-Fi, reclining seats and the airline's updated mainline livery and uniforms. Air Canada has also opened a new Rouge crew base in Vancouver as part of the brand's expansion. The growth of Rouge has drawnoppositionfrom the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE), which filed a grievance in May after Air Canada moved to expand Rouge to 52 aircraft. CUPE said the current collective agreement only permits Rouge to operate 50 aircraft unless the union consents to more, adding Air Canada did not seek approval before exceeding the limit. Air Canada responded by saying the changes were temporary.
