Sicamous Health Centre landscaping contract awarded at $62K - Today in BC

Published 4:30 pm Friday, June 19, 2026By Heather BlackThe green space next to the Sek’emaws (Sicamous) Health Centre will be getting some cosmetic surgery following the contract award for the landscaping project. Earlier this year, the District of Sicamous issued a request for proposals (RFP) to find a landscaper, with the final report and recommendation brought to council at the June 10 meeting. Of the four submissions received, staff recommended awarding the contract to Swan Lake Landscaping out of Vernon for $62,624 plus GST, which was the best price. “This went through the full RFP process knowing that it was anticipated to be over $50,000,” chief financial officer Bianca Colonna said. “And yeah, we’re pretty happy with the dollar figure we ended up getting. ”She added this contract is for landscaping that includes a healing garden required for grant obligations, a central seating area, pathways, brick planters, trees, lighting and a fence. As the area is almost entirely in an archaeological do not disturb area, Coun. Gord Bushell questioned about digging there to install bases for planters and seating. Staff, however, assured there would be no digging, but rather the area would be built up after they “scrape” the grass and surface to create solid base. “We’re also getting the archaeological sensitive area kind of staked out,” Colonna added. “So it’ll be very apparent where that can and cannot happen. ”The recommendation passed, with Bushell opposed. Work started once the contract was awarded, and is scheduled to be completed by June 30.
