Steps taken in normalising India-China ties in the last few months must be welcomed, Jaishankar told Wang in his opening remarks. Jaishankar noted that the ties between Asia's largest countries have been gradually normalising the since the breakthrough meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping on the margins of the BRICS Kazan Summit in October 2024, days after the two militaries agreed on a disengagement pact in a bid to resolve the eastern Ladakh standoff.
