Sylvan Lake business hosting tattoo fundraiser for mental health awareness - Sylvan Lake News

Published 3:30 pm Wednesday, August 5, 2026Perception Ink will host a fundraiser for mental health awareness and suicide prevention on Aug. 22. The fundraiser is being held in honour of tattoo artist Satch Mottus’s friend, who took his own life on July 5, leaving behind his two daughters. “I can’t change what happened to my friend, and I can’t bring him back, but I can honour his memory by encouraging people to talk about mental health without shame,” she said. “This fundraiser is about turning tragedy into something that helps others feel seen, supported, and hopefully more willing to ask for help. ”For each tattoo completed, 50 per cent of the proceeds will go towards the daughters of Mottus’s friend as they navigate this difficult time. “We will also be having a silent auction in which 100 per cent of the proceeds will go towards them,” she said. For the silent auction, people can come to the studio to view and bid on pieces donated by local artists and businesses. This fundraiser is more than just raising money for his daughters, Mottus said. “We are hoping to spark a conversation about mental health, and how important it is to reach out for help when you need it. Seeing how many people show up to support the cause will hopefully reassure them that they are not alone and that there is a huge community of people who love them. “No appointment is needed to get a tattoo during the fundraiser. “It will be pre-drawn flash that people can choose from. ”Fundraisers like this do make a difference, Mottus said. “It gets people talking. Suicide and mental health are still subjects many people avoid. If even one person decides to reach out for help because of this event, then it’s worth it. ”Perception Ink is located at 160 Hewlett Park Landing. More information on the fundraiser can be found on the Perception Ink Facebook page.
