Taliban, Turkey Discuss Expanding Tourism Cooperation - EUROPE SAYS

The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban officials and Turkey’schargé d’affaires in Kabul discussed expanding bilateral cooperation intourism, including plans for a tourism cooperation agreement and efforts topromote the tourism attractions of Afghanistan and Turkey, Taliban officials said. According to the Taliban’s Ministry of Information andCulture, Qudratullah Jamal, the Taliban’s deputy minister for finance andadministration, met with Sadin Ayildiz, Turkey’s chargé d’affaires in Kabul, todiscuss strengthening tourism ties between the two countries. The two sides also discussed facilitating travel fortourists, organizing training programs, expanding cooperation betweenprivate-sector tourism companies, and establishing a joint technical workinggroup to advance tourism-related initiatives, the ministry said. The meeting comes as a number of Afghan women have voicedconcern that the growing presence of foreign tourists in Afghanistan, withoutattention to the country’s human rights situation, could contribute toportraying an inaccurate picture of conditions under Taliban rule. They say some foreign tourists travel to Afghanistan at theinvitation of the Taliban and present a version of the country that does notreflect the daily realities faced by Afghan women. The women argue that conditions for women inAfghanistan—particularly following sweeping restrictions on education, employment, and participation in public life—are far more severe than what isdepicted in some tourism-related reports and promotional content.
