Tekno Reveals Health Crisis That Cost Him Millions - Rhythm FM

Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Tekno has reflected on the devastating health challenge that nearly derailed his music career, revealing that a serious vocal cord condition forced him to turn down lucrative performance opportunities worth millions of dollars. The “Pana” hitmaker said the illness struck at the height of his success, abruptly bringing his busy touring schedule to a standstill and leaving him unable to perform, record music or even speak comfortably for an extended period. Recounting the beginning of the ordeal, Tekno explained that he first injured his voice during a concert in Ghana where he shared the stage with fellow Afrobeats stars Wizkid and Davido. Rather than resting, he proceeded to honour another performance in Togo the following day—a decision he now believes significantly worsened the injury. As his condition deteriorated, the singer embarked on a lengthy search for treatment, consulting medical specialists in Nigeria before travelling to London, Los Angeles and New York in pursuit of answers. Despite undergoing several examinations, he said it took months before doctors identified the root cause of the problem. The prolonged recovery came at a heavy financial cost. Tekno disclosed that he was forced to cancel numerous international bookings, missing out on millions of dollars in performance fees while simultaneously spending huge sums on medical bills, specialist consultations and overseas treatment. Eventually, doctors diagnosed him with severe acid reflux that had inflamed his vocal cords, requiring him to undergo a robotic surgical procedure in the United States. He described the recovery process as one of the toughest experiences of his life, saying even basic actions such as breathing, sneezing and moving around became painful in the aftermath of the operation. Despite the setbacks, Tekno said the experience transformed his outlook on life, reminding him that good health outweighs wealth and fame. Now fully recovered, the award-winning singer says he has returned to making music with a deeper appreciation for his craft, his fans and the gift of his voice.
