Thailand’s business sentiment climbs to four‑month high in July

4th August 2026 – (Bangkok) Thailand’s business confidence improved for a second straight month in July, reaching its strongest level in four months, according to figures released by the Bank of Thailand on Monday. The central bank reported that the country’s Business Sentiment Index (BSI) edged up to 46. 7 in July from 46. 1 in June. The modest rise was driven by gains in cost management, overall performance and investment components. The non‑manufacturing sector provided the main support for the improvement. Sentiment strengthened in several service industries, notably transportation and warehousing, where lower average retail fuel prices compared with the previous month contributed to more positive assessments of costs and service volumes. Confidence among operators in the hotel and restaurant trade also rose markedly, supported by an increase in flight services, particularly those operated by Middle Eastern carriers. Despite the uptick, the non‑manufacturing index remained below the 50‑point threshold for the fifth consecutive month, indicating that overall sentiment in the sector is still in contraction territory. The central bank noted that a sustained drop in foreign tourist arrivals continued to weigh on the outlook. Manufacturers, meanwhile, reported softer sentiment across a range of industries, citing ongoing uncertainty linked to trade restrictions and United States import tariffs. Looking ahead, expectations for the next three months improved significantly. The forward‑looking BSI rose to 50. 7 in July from 48. 0 in June, reflecting stronger confidence in order books and business performance. Both manufacturing and non‑manufacturing firms reported brighter prospects, with hospitality businesses in particular expressing optimism tied to the tourism season and hopes of a rebound in overseas visitors.
